“At any given moment, there is something or someone watching you,” sociologist Francisco Lara-García tells The Markup
leftists better start caring about privacy because we will be the ones to be fucked the most by the lack of it.
The only people I’ve ever met who really cared about privacy were leftists.
“If you aren’t doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide.”
All well and good until the state decides to throw you in a black site for talking about unionization at work or giving a sandwich to a homeless person.
“If you aren’t doing anything wrong you have nothing to hide.”
Fuckerberg said something similar when he declared that privacy as a concept was obsolete in the grand and glorious bazinga future, and then a few days later had an ultra-secret wedding ceremony with an ultra secret guest list in a completely blacked out location.
Also that time he tried to buy even more land around his property or put up a fence or something like that - it’s been a long time since I read it - that would have impacted access of native Hawaiian people. For “privacy.” Fucking nerd-king.
There’s a good amount of libertarian get off my lawn types that do too.
Maybe they just don’t see or can’t connect how capitalism and enshittification regarding privacy are connected
True, good point.
100% And it shouldn’t be too hard. I’m pretty sure it was largely leftists against draconian surveillance that started in the 2000s.
