My oldest contracted COVID last weekend and then we all got it. We went to the pet store to get fish for our big fish tank. Their mask was bothering them because it was so hot out. My partner and I figured it’d be okay to take it off in the store since we’d only be in there a little bit. There weren’t many other people in there… but they got it anyway.

It’s hard not to feel regret and anger about it. I want my kid to has some semblance of normalcy. They’re a normal 3-year-old, but they have a heart condition.

We all ended up getting it of course. The fever came on so hot and fast there was no spotting it. Second infection for me, and in less than a year. Our little 1-year-old too. They didn’t know what was happening to their body. That look of terrified worry from their eyes. Not able to tell us what they feel because they don’t know any words other than “No” and “Wahwah”. I’ve been having PTSD symptoms more frequently. Our three-year-old almost died when they were a few months old from the heart condition. Our one-year-old looks completely different, favoring their mother’s side more than mine. But they have the same expressions as their older sibling. I want to keep them safe. I feel like I’ve let them down. I should have just had our three-year-old wait outside with mom and the baby while I got the fish. But then they wouldn’t have been able to pick the cute ones. They should be able to go into a pet store and pick out cute fish. But someone out there was convinced by the media and our psychopathic society that COVID is over and harmless now. It’s unfair.

My three-year-old’s cardiologist isn’t too worried about it, thankfully. They’ve explained a lot of the current understanding of COVID’s effects on pediatric cardio patients to us. My kid’s type of heart condition isn’t impacted by COVID, that they know of. And my partner and I are so on the lookout for anything the doctor is confident if anything does come that we’ll spot it. It’s still hard.

We’re testing tonight. Depending on the results we might go the zoo on Wednesday while the crowds are away.

What’s the deal with birthday parties? Our oldest was invited to a birthday party by a mate in daycare, along with 17 other kids. She was the only one to show up, apparently only 2 even replied with a “no”. The kiddo had family there, but none of the aunts and uncles had kids of their own.

This seems to be a trend I’ve noticed. Maybe its always been like this for 3 or 4 year olds, but I haven’t had anyone tell me the contrary. Not sure if this is a covid development or what…

Just feel bad for the kiddo.

My kid’s in that age range, and all of the birthday partys we have visited have been pretty packed.

We’re gearing up for the first “big” (i.e. not just the immediate family at home) birthday party next month and we’re hoping it won’t be a ghost town. She also doesn’t usually like to be the center of attention, so I’m hoping the day of ends up going well. IDK we’ll see how it goes in the future lol

Right now (about to turn 3) we are not planning big invite birthday parties until after 6 and haven’t been invited to any either. We just do small family events. Most of the ideas we had for a birthday party would just be more elaborate versions of what they already do at daycare everyday (get into a room together and run around)

Messed up my DIY birthday gift big time, It had technical components that just do not play together and it’s gonna take me a few more weeks to figure out exactly why and how to fix it.

Desperately scrambling to find something I can buy instead.

Oldest is on his last week of summer break so I’m sort of letting him chill and play video games all day long lol.

We are trying small amounts of caffeine for him in the afternoons to see if it helps with the adhd zoomies and it seems to actually be effective. Gonna keep an eye on it.

Dropped off our youngest at the new daycare and he was definitely clinging to my leg the whole time unti one of the teachers or whatever asked if he wanted to play with toys. He instantly forgot about me lol.

I’m trying to catch up on some cleaning around the house that was neglected all summer but also need to work on this newsletter component I am building out for my website template. But also sort of just wanna chill with the oldest since he starts school next week. Yesterday we beat Supraland together. I think he loves that games more than I do lol.
