I think what’s going on in his head is some kind of outdated thing someone in education probably told him 40 or 50 years ago - that “poor” kids have lower literacy rates because they just don’t hear enough words so leave the record player on for 'em Jack. That’s my best guess of what he was trying to say. Forget all the ststemic issues in education - just leave the record player on Jack
