Everyone is mad that the Netflix version of Luo Ji is being played by a black guy, all kinds of derogatory jokes about the diversity casting

This is a common cracker tactic when it comes to “adapting” Asian stories. They replace Asian characters with other minorities so that if Asian people complain they can be dismissed as being racist. If Chinese forum users are making racist jokes about black people then that’s obviously not okay, but complaining about an Asian story being plastered over as if all minorities are fungible is valid imo.

Taking a step back, this is a manifestation of the divide and conquer strategy crackers often apply to other groups, privilege one over the other to foster acrimony and hate so that other groups can’t unite to dismantle white supremacy. It cuts the other way with Asians in the West being the “model minority” until recently, but in entertainment crackers definitely favor African Americans over Asians.
