So I’ve been working on my Xeon workstation. The watercooling parts are stuck in customs. So I’ll need to get a couple fan radiators or something for now.

But now I’ve discovered there aren’t really any cases (my dad got one for me) that I can see which will fit my zx-du99d4x8 motherboard.

So I’ll need to find some old cabinet system to retrofit and make a mid sized server cabinet out of. I’m getting kinda desperate to start using my workstation.

I’ll make a big threat on my workstation here when it’s done.

I went to the thrift store. They have a sign out front saying they don’t take all sorts of good stuff like furniture, printers, PVC, tanks, canisters, building materials, appliances, etc. They refer you to all the different local disposals. I tried to prepare my picture but too much identifying stuff.

So maybe I need to go to one of those places or a landfill to look around. Btw I’m looking around for a broken or so printer to dissect for all the open source printer/Printer OS people.

Lian Li might have a case for your needs. They sell them at around the same price as other cases, but with no fans, so you’ll need to take that cost into account.

They are very moddable and high-quality cases however and they post their schematics freely online for 3D printing mods.

Looks nice. He got me the DLX 22 NEO as payment/present for something else.

That’s advertised as EATX but definitely doesn’t fit the mobo. I think that will go for any consumer case I throw at it.

I look at server stuff but it’s being sold expensively. So I’ll have to make do.

Unfortunately for such a size, you won’t likely find anything cheap. If you try to cobble something together you need to somewhat know what you are doing, otherwise you will likely have airflow issues. I’d suggest selling off the DLX 22 if you dont need it to increase your budget.

we likely can’t sell it because shipping is too high. but that is fine since I have other uses for the case and it will retain value.

I’m afraid the issue seems that cases which may fit this mobo are in shorter supply. That’s what I’m aware of but if you can find a better option tell me. It’s 13" tall and 12" wide. The mount holes don’t line up with the case and neither does the IO properly.

Well I think for the cabinet it would just be a matter of cutting out all the right holes and squares for everything fans, IO, powersupply, mounting. First step would be drilling mounts for the mobo using bolts, nuts, washers.

I only spend so much for this workstation. I can’t dump 50% more of it’s value on a case that may not work or satisfy me.

Maybe it’s time to start the thread on this workstation so I can share more details of it including spacings.

Can you send me the mobo specifications? Also clearance for coolers and GPU, and your budget for a case.

Yes I will once I’ve successfully collected all that. Budget is likely $120 max (but it needs to be actually good).
