Have you read that Kim Stanley Robinson novel, Ministry for the Future? They do some stuff like that, creating land bridges and whatnot, to reconnect ecosystems.
It’s a bit lib at times but you’ll probably like MftF then. I found it a smoother read than Red Mars, imo. Still gotta read the rest one of these days.

I haven’t read that one, but I was a big fan of the Red Marks Blue Mars Green Mars books.
