Not that I want to live there but what the hell is up with that first paragraph?

Your new suburban rental has granite kitchen countertops, built to withstand even the most hard-wearing tenant.

Cool, granite countertops are expensive and usually the premium option. What am I supposed to want, formica?

The neighbors next door have the exact same laundry machine.

Nooo I wanted the tricked-out one with chrome rims, a spoiler, and racing stripes. Damn my inability to access my rights as an American consumer to choose from one of 17 functionally identical options!

How is this any worse than being stuck with whatever boneheaded decisions the previous owner made that you inherit when you buy an existing property?
