Over the course of this long occupation, from the 1300s until World War I, Catholic rulers solidified their rule and their cultural influence. They preached hatred of Russians, and of Russian Orthodoxy, and of Jews, and of Judaism. This is the origin of Ukrainian Fascism. Instigated by German Imperialism, but it does take a life of its own.
