Why would Biden ever step down?

Biden has gone further than any previous American president could ever have imagined.

The war in Ukraine has completely severed any chance of Europe forming a close alliance with Russia and China in the upcoming showdown between US and China. That’s a huge win for the neocons.

Europe is now spending huge proportion of their GDP to militarize, and that also means austerity and cutting welfare and social programs. That’s a huge win for the American military industrial complex and the private equity firms looking to cannibalize European public utilities and companies.

The US went from being a net oil importer to net exporter after the war started. American natural gas is now replacing Russian gas. That’s a huge win for the American fossil fuel industry.

Remember when Trump bragged about how well the stock market was doing under his presidency? Well, S&P500 is now 50% (!!) higher than the highest point during Trump’s era. The rich people are not just getting free money, they are SWIMMING in it. That’s a huge win for the American donor class.

Biden has achieved everything that Trump had promised the donor class but failed to deliver.

Why would the donor class ever want to replace Biden? Just because his polling is bad? You cannot be this naive and think that democracy is well and alive in the country? I can assure you that if they want to favor a certain outcome, it is going to happen.

I’m going to guess that over the next 11 months, there will be something such repulsive coming from the GOP platform that half of the “progressives” who swore never to vote for Biden, will end up defending Biden because “Trump is threatening to destroy our democracy”. The other half will keep the facade while secretly voting for Biden in the ballot box, because they are so afraid of what’s going to happen if Trump wins again.

All of that is true, but Biden’s approval is currently lower than Trump’s and Carter’s at the same points in their presidencies.

Honestly does that really matter? Like every president is unpopular in the social media age. Once the election is actually on the horizon the media will blitz us with Biden good, Orange man bad propaganda and the normies will fall in line.

Biden is also behind Trump in every swing state. It’s still mostly a coin toss as to who will win in 2024 but it’s not looking great for Biden.

I don’t pay much heed to polls this far out. I think certain demos are pissed at Biden and saying this won’t vote for him now, but as the election grows closer the media will report on more and more crazy shit Trump is saying and people will go back to vootin bluu noo mooter whoo.

Plus the demos he’s polling terribly with tend to be the ones who don’t show at the ballot box much, lib wine will still turn out for him.

But also, I think things are just going to keep getting worse for Biden for the rest of his presidency. Can you only polish a turd so much?

As much as it pains me to agree with the Libs, I think there are some signs that the economy is gradually getting better. Not by much but maybe enough that things will be tolerable. The housing market is still fucked and probably will be for a while, but it has been for a while and people seem just resigned to it. Inflation and gas prices are coming down, there’s been some job and wage growth. Heck even with housing there has been some more building so we actually may see some minor improvement.

This plus the threat of Trump maybe enough for Biden to clinch it.

The only evidence I’ve seen that “the economy” is improving is that the stock market is up and TVs are cheap. Literally everything else is the same or worse.

Unemployment is down too and also there has been wage growth in the lower sectors of the economy. Barrister and stock boys are making more. Problem is their wages were shit to start with so they’ve gone from shit to slightly less shit, and most of that improvement has been eaten up by the economy.

Inflation does seem to be slowing, housing still sucks tho.

        That’s why I said:

Biden has gone further than any previous American president could ever have imagined.

Biden is surely breaking new grounds everywhere. I think we’re going to find out, if it hasn’t been made clear over the years, that the opinion of the 95% doesn’t matter at all.

The US went from being a net oil importer to net exporter after the war started.

pretty sure this already happened during the Obama administration

The US has always been a net importer until last year:

But it’s true that the trend has been going for a while, just that the Ukraine war accelerated and pushed it across the boundary.

apparently I was remembering the stat for refined petroleum

In May 2011, the country became a net exporter of refined petroleum products.
