archive.today • Israeli Mothers Knew Their Sons Would Serve. But They Didn’t Expect War. - The New York Times

I expected comments would be off by they are on. I guess the Times expected pro-Israeli comments. But that’s not what’s at the very top.

And, they are fighting for what?

They are fighting for a religious right authoritarian government whose main supporters don’t pay taxes or serve in the military.

And mothers in Palestine know that not only their draft-age sons, but they, their husbands and their minor children and those of their extended families could be killed at any time, in the course of a vindicative, illegal and politically motivated invasion and bombing campaign.

And “didn’t expect war”? After voting in for years a government with no interest in a viable peace settlement?

I’m sorry for their anguish and hope their children return whole. There are consequences for the governments we elect.
