    I would also imagine a computer algorithm could manage all the signaling and switches … the dream of driver-less trains is way more feasible than driverless trucks (Big Tech and Car Lobby are lobbying hard for this), since a train can only go forwards or backwards on a given track.

      There are already plenty of automated light rail and metros, though they are almost always grade separated and fenced off for safety. There have been automated trains since, no joke, the 70s.
