“I visited a school, hosting thousands of displaced persons,” Lazzarini continued. “The place was overcrowded. The level of distress and the unsanitary living conditions were beyond comprehension. Everyone was asking for water and food. Instead of being at school to learn, children were asking for a sip of water and a loaf of bread. It was heartbreaking.”

I think the UN should have an actual defensive army to rapidly deploy in situations like this. Attacking the peacekeepers shows the world your true colors.

Nah, because while the UN is a good idea in theory, it’s just an extension of the American empire as it is currently organized.

Yeah, I’m saying like actual functional, non hostage to the US, UN. Like how the people who envisioned it wanted. The body that ends the wars of aggression.

The “people who envisioned it”, however, were imperialists. They merely claimed that’s what they wanted the UN to be to make it more palatable to those who would fall under the control and influence of the Big 5. The UN has always been, and will always be, a tool of imperialism as long as there are countries that have the ability to rule by minority (see the vote for a ceasefire in Gaza. Only three counties did not vote in favor. Ukraine abstained, and the US and Israel voted against. Because the US has veto power, it didn’t pass )

“Nobody’s perfect” makes it sound like the UN was corrupted. It was never about all nations having equal say. It is functioning as intended by the post-WWII major colonial powers. You, I, and everyone who was ever told that the UN was there to make the world more fair and to give everyone equal say bought into a lie the UN successfully sold us.

Yeah, was just trying to exit with levity. I don’t disagree with the flaws of the institution or it’s founders. Just trying to support a functional end to war, whatever that may be.

Regardless of what the UN was envisioned to be, or what it is, what should it be?

That’s what we should be asking when trying to come up with improvements.

We can still dream my man. Impossible things happen all the time; all it takes are the right ideas under the right circumstances. We just need to be ready to take that step when we see the opening.

@TinyPizza @TinyPizza although the UN is made up of hundreds of countries, we can’t stand up against any of the superpowers.

The US made a clear threat when it passed a law authorizing itself to conduct a military attack on the Hague if ever we try to try any of them for war crimes.

      That would be awesome.

Instead of joining your nation’s military, you can join the world military.

As long as it is an exclusively defensive military, I’d have to agree! Maybe it could go a long way to help people understand each other and that we are all the same.
