A Signal compatible cross plattform client written in Go and Vuejs - nanu-c/axolotl

Thought it was only available for Ubuntu Touch phones but it can also be used on Linux desktop and Mobian.

Axolotl is a complete cross-platform Signal client, compatible with the Ubuntu Phone and more. Unlike the desktop Signal client, Axolotl is completely autonomous and doesn’t require you to have created an account with the official Signal application.

    Interesting. I wonder if it can connect to the Signal servers, given that Signal shut down LibreSignal. I doubt it, but I could be surprised.

    I also wonder if you can only chat with other users who have Axolotl, unlike XMPP or Matrix, which lets you speak to anyone who uses whichever client they have as long as they use those protocols.

    Regardless, it’s cool to see projects that are kinda not really forks of Signal! Edit: yeh, my mistake, it’s not a proper fork. Thanks, @poVoq@lemmy.ml !

      I have not used it, but my understanding is that it does connect to the normal Signal servers and allows texting to other users on the official Signal app.

      I guess it is still too obscure for the Signal Foundation to care ;)

      Edit: it is not a fork at all but a independent implementation.
