Aren’t you like not allowed to challenge the government openly? This isn’t a secret or anything.

Well there’s a lot of currently existing restrictions on what you can and can’t publish in media in China. The ministry of culture has restrictions on things that “disrupt the social order” and “threatening national unity”. People who are openly critical of government policies have had fines placed on them and sometimes jail times too.

Okay. What kind of sources do you have on that? Where did you learn that? What insights do you have into those cases? I know plenty of people in China who can protest and critique the government.

I’m going to be honest with you, I don’t have any sources specifically out of China. Most of my information comes from groups like Amnesty International. I tend to trust what they say since they’re all over the world, generally unbiased, and report accurately on the abuses going on in the US, Latin America, Israel, etc.

If you have anything that says otherwise please share.

Well the amnesty international report on China is based on its record for 2020. Amnesty International does these reports for every country and compares their human rights records with the UN declaration of human rights. Amnesty International criticized China for censorship, crack downs, the whole Xinjiang thing, etc. I think they praised their ability to provide other UN human rights guidelines too. Another source of information is the UN Human Rights Office of the High Commissioner. I’m usually inclined to trust these guys but like I said if you’ve got information on the contrary please share.

Are they not able to emigrate? It is not illegal to leave China and move elsewhere.

Oh, don’t worry. Uncle Gordan Chang here can introduce you to “some of the Chinese people [he knows].”
