Revisionism, at least to the Marxist community, just means that a group/country/figure/etc has somehow changed, rewrote, or “revised” the doctrines once held prior.

For example, Maoists often consider modern day China to be revisionist — they believe China has moved away from Mao’s values and teachings, and revised his plans for the country.

It is almost always used pejoratively.

So like how Lenin talked about how “All social chauvinists are now Marxists?”

In that case, Lenin was talking about nationalists adopting inauthentic and surface level socialist values, and watering down the revolutionary fervor of marxism. So no, I wouldn’t say its the same thing.

I’m sure someone more familiar with Maoism could give you a better answer, because the split between Dengism and Maoism really is the best example.

Its not a concise term, so a clear definition is impossible. It means a vague betrayal of X, where X is a set of principles interpreted by who is making the claim.

Its mostly used now by various ultralefts to demonize advancements or additions to Marxism, who see certain strategies as “betrayals” of their dogmatism. Its very much a term similar to heresy, which goes against the spirit of scientific socialism which demands we learn and correct our strategy through historical practice.

On top of that, its meaningless without context. Revising the words, or deeds of who?

Yea you nailed the connotation perfectly… it really is just a “religious” accusation hurled by people to whom Marxism isn’t an adaptable science but a rigid dogma.

Usually someone who claims that an acceptable goal of socialism is social-democrat reforms.
