Citing that the Chinese government has an approval rating of 90+% among Chinese people often gets countered by the argument “Why don’t you ask the Uyghurs/Tibetans/Hong Kongers what they think of the Chinese government”

Are there any statistics on approval among these people and how do you handle such an argument?

Tibet isn’t a country and China already liberated them from a monastic order responsible for cutting the tongues and eyeballs out of children, who they kept as slaves

Tibet was before China invaded them. Mutilation wasn’t a common practice when China invaded. Tibet was in the process of modernization. Why don’t we look at China during the same time?

Furthermore, with your logic it’s justified for the US to invade and annex North Korea.

I would also love to see an academic source for this slavery claim.

Edit: I also love that you can’t even answer my basic question from my previous comment!

Wow! Way to defend one of the most brutal regimes. Unless, all the North Korean refugees I worked with are lying, we know some of the brutality that is happening.

Oh and you never did post an academic source… give me a specific source. That’s right you can’t…

You’re stuffing your fingers in your ears and not reading. I gave you an entire list of academic sources on tibetan slavery. Google scholar only searches academic sources. Go click on one of them.

I’m not defending the North Korean government, I’m simply stating that we don’t know enough. If that’s “defending” then you need to have a long hard look in the mirror.

            Idiots are always the loudest.

Go ahead and pick one. Just using Google scholar and typing in a topic isn’t finding a source…

When we clearly know some of the atrocities that are happening and you state that we don’t know enough, yes, you are supporting them. Go read what you wrote, if you think you’re not defending NK, then you’re the idiot…

Here, I’ll do what you did. Look at Chinese slavery!

And since you kindly put in a link for Chinese slavery for some reason, I clicked, I actually had a look through the results, and they mostly concern imperial China and Japanese war crimes in China anyway. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ so what.

mutilation was indeed common practice when China invaded and took back its territory from the monastic fascists that had been tormenting the Tibetan people for generations, sorry that hurts your feelings

the simple fact is, Tibet is at a maximum state of freedom and will belong to China as long as there is a China (I’d bet on at least another 4,000 years)

LOL what happens if a Tibetan has a Tibetan flag in Tibet? They can’t even have a piece of cloth, but yet they’re so “free”.

Right…that’s why Tibet is always rated as having one of the lowest levels of freedom. Talking to Tibetans in Tibet, they don’t like the Chinese.

Not the person who you were commenting to but I have to say. Upon reading your initial statement, the “question” sounded rhetorical. If your really want people to answer your questions then it also helps if you leave it at the end of your paragraphs.

You’re making the claim… you have to back it up (which you can’t). If you say unicorns exist, you need to provide evidence for it. I can’t provide evidence of unicorns not existing.

But what would you like specific sources for?

I’m laughing at the notion of the Ganden Phodrang modernizing/liberalizing and at the notion that mutilation wasn’t a common practice.

What do Qing texts have to do with Lungshar?

Laugh all you want…the fact is, they were. Even the current Dalai Lama supported reforms. By the time China invaded, mutilation wasn’t common…

The Tibetans had to use Qing texts for Lingshar’s eye gouging…as they didn’t know how to do it.
