Jumped into a new system today, and a ship hailed me. They wanted me to get the data from a satellite. Only problem was that the satellite was surrounded by mines - the explosive sort, not the asteroid mining sort. And I wasn’t allowed to just shoot the mines because any explosion would destroy the data.

I coasted in to about 600m and then, inevitably, BOOM! There was a groan from the other ship, and they jumped out.

Anyone got a better way to solve this than just “git gud”? The mines are tiny and it’s hard to see where they are in relation to the ship, especially with a Guardian with the tall fins.

During one of the intro to flying, there was a ship sneak mission. You had to turn off all your ships systems except 1 pip of power to the engines, and just slowly putter up to the target. That’s what I did when I encountered this satellite surrounded by asteroids.

I tried that! Well, maybe I didn’;t have the engines all the way down. I was coasting in as slowly as I could, but maybe the power levels are the determining factor.

I’ll try that next time. Thanks!

I’d recommend backing off and trying to approach the satellite from a different angle. The mines are laid out in a pattern, and depending on your approach angle, it’ll either be really easy to get through, or basically impossible.

I tried from various different angles, going really slow with just one energy bar in engine. But it would explode every time. So I gave up.

I got through without any problems by approaching it from the side. Did it first try, but I recommend going slowly and quicksaving often
