seems like unity, like every other corpos when they reach the top, got bored of being #1 and decided they want a little spice in their corpo life and so they decide to fuel the fire even more than douse it
More like, Unity has only ever had a couple profitable quarters, and with interest rates up, suddenly the infinite money glitch no longer works, so companies who relied upon it are forced to enshittify their products in attempt to capture more revenue.
I think it’s even dumber than that. I think they actually thought this was a genius plan and couldn’t fathom the possibility of devs dropping them in response
