Like ever? I feel like it’s almost guaranteed the more money the worse you become. I know this isn’t very dialectic but it’s true.

No need to backflip. That user was in one of the “stop using racist slurs for customising cars” sticking up for racism. And that they’re sad they can’t use slurs on hexbear but will continue to do so in real life. Car-brained bigot. “What would Karl do” is apparently “glorify car culture and use anti-Asian slurs”.

So here’s what actually happened, because the entire post was apparently deleted. I was confused about why the term “rice” was considered racist. I’ve always considered it to be a play on the word “race”, where people made a bunch of go-fast mods to their cars that were purely cosmetic (exactly as urban dictionary defines it). Anecdotally, my biggest car nut friend IRL is asian and uses it all the time. Does that make me a bigot? These people apparently feel that I’ve committed crimes big enough to bring it up in random threads and misgender me, but decide for yourself please.

I did not deliberately misgender you, I’m old and from california where terms like guy and dude are often used in a non-gendered way. Also “I have an asian friend” is a hell of a way to deflect from the fact that the term rice wrt cars and ESPECIALLY Linux OS customization has explicitly racist origins.

My sister and I always addressed each other with the word “dude” and we would often refer to a plurality of our friend groups as “you guys” etc. Now this is not an excuse on my part and I should do better at keeping a check on that about myself but I was definitely not deliberately misgendering this person who comes off very strongly as a concern troll.

I get that you genuinely didn’t intend to misgender, but you should probably stop calling people guy/dude if you’re unsure of their gender or if they will be comfortable with it.

Don’t worry, I’m not going to reply to random comments of yours with something like “oh hey, it’s that guy who defends the using of the word “guy” for everyone”. I’m fairly certain you aren’t a transphobe, and insinuating you are would be a dick move. My instance (rightfully) has rules against being uncivil and I value my comrades and membership there.

I’ve made this comparison before, but in my local queer group of friends (it’s seriously in our name on our discord server), the word queer is a catch-all term for anyone LGBT. It was originally used as a slur, but it’s long since been reclaimed by queer people. But there are still some who don’t like the word. I’ve never met any, but if I did, I would refrain from using the word around them out of respect. But amongst my other queer friends, I’m obviously going to still going to use the word because we like it.

Now, I had no idea that the word in question had racist origins (a claim that I’m still somewhat dubious of). But you people clearly don’t like it, so I agreed to not use it around you. But in my friend group it is completely reclaimed, even if it were racist at some point. I see no reason to force it into becoming a slur with them.

If you really think I’m a racist, why aren’t I banned? That would be against instance rules. Otherwise, I would like to ask you to respect these rules on your instance:

We will ban you if you insult, demean or harass anyone. That is not welcome behavior. This is distinctly different than ribbing or grilling someone.

Likewise any spamming, trolling, flaming, baiting or other attention-stealing behavior is not welcome and will be banned.

Because getting accused of being a racist every time I post anything here is really not something I need in my life.
