I see plenty of room to pass. Person running in the gutter lane. Sidewalks in this area look fucking rough (thanks, car centric transportation!).

What’s mildly infuriating is the asshole taking a picture WHILE operating a motor vehicle.

The sidewalks don’t look bad and he’s running on the wrong side of the road. Pedestrians are supposed to go against traffic.

Like it or not, he’s on the road where cars have the right of way, and there is a dedicated path where he can have the right of way.

You don’t see the slant in the sidewalk? The fucking pavers are uneven af as well. Have you ever ran on an uneven surface? Shit is prone to rolling your ankle. If you are older, probably fucks up your knees

I agree he is running on the wrong side and for safety should definitely run against traffic. Whether it’s illegal to do this really depends on the local and state laws, I think.

In some states, pedestrian sidewalks do not exist so the rules/laws are a bit unclear. Not sure where you live but in my area the sidewalks just abruptly end and leave you to enter the roadway or cross the road to get to another sidewalk which may or may not be protected by signal or paint (ie, unsafe af)

I’ve seen much worse. How bad that is really depends on how fast he’s going, which we have no way of knowing. Most people I see out jogging are not going fast enough for that sidewalk to be a problem. I’m pretty sure some people I see jogging could be passed by someone on a brisk walk.

I agree that the rules become very unclear when sidewalks don’t exist. Sidewalks that randomly end are also a problem (I have some of those near me). From the image we have that doesn’t seem to be the case here, as far as we can tell.

Lol you got guts for commenting that here and I respect that. Better to risk an ankle roll then to be hit by a crazy person on their phone while driving.

I’m not pro car and I long for better infrastructure, that’s half of my YouTube recommendations most days… Not Just Bikes and various other videos about infrastructure stuff.

I get the sub, and like it, but we still need to realize the realities of what some people have to work with. I get annoyed when a bike is on certain roads, but I’m also annoyed that the reason the bike is there is a lack of proper bike infrastructure and city planning. The two things are not mutually exclusive. I’d bike, walk, or run a lot more of the infrastructure was in place to do it. Without that infrastructure it becomes dangerous for everyone involved.

The runner is not following the rules of the road. The driver has a right to be annoyed. The driver is also a shit head for driving and taking pictures at the same time (assuming that’s what happened).

We all have the right to be annoyed at anything. Even ridiculously small things that don’t affect us at all. Isn’t that swell. So what? What’s the BFD? If a grown adult would rather run on the shoulder than on the sidewalk, they probably have reasons for doing that.

Sure, but they should do it on the proper side of the road if they’re going to do it anyway. It’s a safety thing, they can see the cars coming at them and make sure they’re out of the way incase some yahoo is swerving trying to take a picture.
