Is there a network for rating movies and seeing the ratings of other users in the fediverse?

Like bookwyrm, just for movies?

The question of a Fediverse alternative to something like IMDb, Trakt, etc has come up a time or two but before - this is my last post on the topic and that links back to previous discussion about this kind of thing because if there’s an online database of stuff that lets you add, review and rate things then someone has suggested a BookWyrm-style Fediverse equivalent. Discogs is a popular one in the various discussions (you can follow my links back).

Apparently, the BookWyrm devs have said that Bookwyrm can be adapted for this use but they won’t be doing it. My suggestion was/is that, rather than keep reworking BookWyrm, it would probably be better in the long-run to create a more generic version (I favour GeneralWyrm) that you could then take an adapt for your needs - creating MovieWyrm, DiscWyrm, ComicWyrm, ActionFigureWyrm, etc.

However, despite it being a great idea that has come up a number of times over the last few years, I am not aware of any progress having been made in adapting BookWyrm for other uses. It will happen eventually though.

Thanks for the response! I was sure someone would have asked this before, but I had trouble finding the right way to search for it.

Making the bookwyrm code easily adaptable to other kind of mediums sounds like a very useful idea

Not a problem - I keep the link bookmarked. I suspect searching for “Fediverse imdb BookWyrm” might eventually get you somewhere but it’s well worth a new post on this as eventually one of the posts bumping this idea up will gain enough traction to get things moving.

I suspect that, if you just wanted MovieWyrm (or ScreenWyrm as you’d want films and TV combined) it’d be quicker to just get BookWyrm adapted for this use but, as there’s demand for other usages, creating GeneralWyrm first would lead to an explosion in the different services as you’d have radically lowered the barrier for everyone else to use it as they desire.

And with all the services we rely on getting bought up and/or shut down and/or being poorly-maintained I think this call for Fediverse equivalents will only get stronger. I’ve used a lot and invested considerable time and effort into some only to have that ruined or simply taken away. I am loath to move my data (where I can, swathes of it is gone) to another service that might go the same way.
