This is about the same distance from Washington DC to New Orleans, Paris to Warsaw, or Berlin to St. Petersburg, or Portland to Los Angeles.

Sweet. It’s good to see China making solid investments in trains now instead of going pretty much all in on cars.

I’ve driven from Portland to Los Angeles, and it’s quite far (about 16 hours), and this train can do it 2.5 hours? Unreal

Its being planned, but not created yet. But its exciting that these maglev trains are almost getting as fast as planes.

Hopefully they can deliver on their promise! If I had a nickel for every high speed rail project that over promised and under-delivered, I would be a rich person.

The road distance from NY to Chicago is similar to the distance from Beijing to Shanghai (~1300km vs ~1200km). There is one daily direct train from NY to Chicago, with a travel time of 19.5 hours. There are currently 30 daily trains from Beijing to Shanghai, with travel times of 4.5 to 6.5 hours.

🥂 to China if they can get that down to 2.5 hours, but, they’re already living in the future compared to the US and Europe.
