First two questions are related to the Berserker subclass of the Barbarian class. I am trying to make sense of it.

1. Frenzy description says “your Rage turns into a frenzy as you release your unquenchable fury and bloodlust”. What is Rage exactly? Looks like I can cast the ability at any point in combat so I think Rage might be irrelevant but I wanted to make sure anyway.

2. I would like to throw stuff as Berserker for damage but I am not sure what are some good things to chuck that I can pick up. Any suggestions for this? So far I have only thrown a mind flayer corpse but the range on that was not good.

The third question is about long rests.

3. Is there any downside to long rests? I was thinking we will turn into mind flayers if we take too long but I am not sure if that is the case.

Thanks.

Frenzy replaces rage which functions similarly to how it does in 5e. Frenzy also gives you a bonus action attack which is nice. Idk about a throw strat but more str = more yeet plus I found some gloves that helped with throwing things, so consider items to help your build. Long rests have been fine as far as not turning into a tentacle monster but I think there are some time sensitive things, like say if an NPC says “tomorrow I will do something” and you dick around for a few long rests the event might fire without you.

Thanks for the explainer. I get it now.

I think I’ve also found those gloves you are talking about which is why I am anxious to chuck some stuff around but I am not sure what kind of objects are usually thrown or if there is a meta for this at all.

Game is new so probably no meta yet. Just yeet anything. Bonus points for how funny it is. See if you can take the brawny feat, not sure if it’s in the game or what it would do, but in 5e it doubles your carry weight so even more yeet.

Some weapons like hand axes and spears will have a “thrown” tag on them on their tool tip. There are also some barbarian builds that give bonuses or proficiency to using “improvised weapons” which is like throwing a chair, barrel, or crate at somebody.

I haven’t played barbarian but warlock sorcerer and paladin all work very close to dnd 5e so I’m assuming barbarian follows that trend and this answer is based on 5e’s barbarian

Rage is a state you can enter with a bonus action, which gives a bunch of bonuses like resistance to physical damage, advantage on strength checks, and added damage to melee attacks. As you level you’ll get some abilities that can add some other stuff like an extra save against being knocked below 0HP.

I’m a Wizard 3/Fighter 1 so I cant answer the first two, but there is definitely no downside to long rests as far as I know. Its how you restore your spell slots and once-a-day actions. Plus you get to bond with your party members after nightfall.

Rage is an ability that gives you bonus on damage rolls as well as resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage. To maintain rage you have to make an attack roll (you can miss and it counts) or take damage every turn, and it lasts a maximum of 10 rounds. Plus whatever frenzy says on top of that.

Really you can throw anything with frenzy as an improvised weapon: chests, chairs, crates, vases, even creatures or dead bodies.

Typically when you don’t have improvised weapon proficiency you would throw hand axes or spears, which would have the thrown tag in their tooltip.

I don’t know if long rests progress anything, but I’m getting the vibe that the ceremorphosis thing won’t happen because they’re trying to use the hosts in a stealthier way (spying, enthralling, creating this religion around the Chosen, etc).
