It seems lemmygrad.ml is federating with them and I was just wondering if this instance will too. I used to browse r/chapotraphouse before reddit banned them and I didn’t know the community was still alive in hexbear until recently. I’m sure a lot of leftists in this instance would also benefit from being able to browse hexbear contents
Okay maybe I need some explanation here but I was under the impression that, as long as your home instance isn’t actively blocking that other instance, you’re able to interact/join any* community on that other instance.
I’m quite new to Lemmy so maybe I missed that info or misunderstood what being federated to another instance means.
Instances can be configured however they want. The standard right now is a blacklist (federate with everyone who asks except blocked instances). Hexbear was considering going with a whitelist instead (only federating with a small handful of servers).
Oh ok I was partly right hahaha
I think I was the confused one lol you’re fine
Hexbear published a small list of servers they intend to federate with, which included lemmygrad.ml, blahaj.zone, and lemmy.ml. It may have also included lemmy.world but I do not remember for sure.
Since lemmy.ml federates with Lemmygrad, I don’t see any reason why the devs would block Hexbear.
ohh ok I was just confused because I thought lemmygrad and hexbear were already federated but I was mistaken.
I just checked the original hexbear announcement about the federation and it seems like it’ll happen near the end of this week
It was supposed to happen before the end of this month but they’ve pushed it back to the 5th.
