He’s definitely not perfect but I’ve never heard Sanders, or AOC, Warren, Walz, or even Zohran Mamdani talk about the propaganda assaulting the US with relation to Palestine, North Korea, China, Cuba, and Venezuela and try to defend them. Everyone else people look to currently on the “left” in the US can’t help but call them dictators or terrorists or whatever.
Sanders, AOC and Mamdani have all engaged in demonization of anti-imperialist governments and have repeated imperialist propaganda talking points about these governments. They are directly contributing to the war propaganda narratives that the empire requires to justify its aggression to liberals. Despite this fact Hasan continues to strongly support these sheepdog Democrats. This says more about his views than what his words say.
Fair, but I just want to say that I think just having the correct rhetoric is something - especially in a country that’s constantly punishing people for having the incorrect line (see all his bans or people losing their jobs over Palestine) and bombarding it’s people endlessly with propaganda, to the point where we basically find ourselves rebuilding left movements from scratch from the ashes of past movements from the 20’s or 60’s and history books. For many people, it’s the first time they were even exposed to another possible thought, and that’s a huge step towards cognitive liberation.
It’s like when I heard Bernie Sanders say he’s a socialist and it was the first time I had heard someone call themselves that on purpose, as opposed to an insult you sling towards others. I’ll always thank him for that, even though I’m way past him politically now and think he’s washed lol. But basically everyone in my ML org started with that same story - either from Bernie or Occupy, or both, leading to class consciousness. The next generation, the streamer watching generation, I think will have Hasan as that start they can move past instead. After that, we’ll probably need a Tik Tok star I guess, since that seems to be where it’s heading next.
