December 5th is a great day for all citizens of the country. On this day, 84 years ago, the enemy was driven back from the capital of our Motherland, thanks to the selfless heroism of the soldiers and officers of the Red Army, residents of the Moscow region, and Soviet citizens. The great battle for Moscow took place!
The Nazis hoped to take the capital, force the Red Army to capitulate, and thus end the war in the East. But their plans proved futile. In fierce battles, the Red Army routed the Nazi troops and pushed them back from Moscow. The enemy encountered stubborn resistance not only from Soviet troops but from the entire people at the walls of the capital. It became clear that Moscow would be defended to the bitter end. Everyone, young and old, rose to defend the capital.
Victory was forged not only at the front but also in the rear. Soviet citizens toiled in factories, plants, railways, collective and state farm fields, laboratories, design bureaus, and research institutes. Everyone was united by the common slogan: “Everything for the front—everything for Victory!”
As long as we live, we will keep in every heart the memory of our heroes – Soviet soldiers and officers, home front workers and children of war, all those who sacrificed their lives to defend Victory! We will convey to everyone the significance of those great days!
Communists in the Moscow region held commemorative events in urban districts across the region to commemorate the heroic deeds of the Red Army and Soviet citizens in the Battle of Moscow.
