Hey folks, my wife and I use Pixel phones, but we’re starting to think about a phone for our kid, really just to be able to call 911, probably wouldn’t even get data. We’re looking for cheap and boring, the fewer features, the better. Also open to smart watches, tho we have no experience with them.

Are there any devices that fit the bill? I’m thinking something like an old Nokia brick from 20 years ago, but of course with VoLTE/VoNR.

Thanks for any help this community can provide!

Probably getting a used Pixel 5A or something would be more than enough. Pixel 6a if you’d rather have the longer updates and you don’t care about the capacitive fingerprint sensor but I think the latter would be easier for a kid.

It will get Android 14 and another 10 or 12 months of security purchase and it’s like 120 bucks.

You go to a prepaid carrier to probably get a bunch of resources like the TCL stylus is $20 if you poured a number over to MetroPCS and $80 if you don’t. You just have to buy these two months of service which is pretty cheap
