    Thing is that people don’t really have a say regarding how the country is run in a capitalist society. This is decided by business interests, and many Canadian companies see China as a lucrative market. A similar thing is happening in EU incidentally, while the media is doing sabre ratting the companies are all making bigger investments in China.

    Capitalists are between a rock and a hard place here. On one hand, they realize that their economic dependence on China puts them at a disadvantage and they don’t like that. On the other hand, they’re all competing with one another, and pulling out of China means also being disadvantaged against your competitors. So, the only logical thing to do is to continue investing in China. This is basically a prisoner’s dilemma scenario for them.
