Hello.

For a long time I have considered smart watches to be a gimmick but since they have become more accessible and common now for some time, I was wondering what the people who own and use them think of them?

So what has your experience been of them?

One thing I am curious about is how functional these (especially the Android ones) are without being connected to a phone via bluetooth since bluetooth drains battery?

If you have a smartwatch compatible with Gadgetbridge, you’re not sending any tracking data to third parties, otherwise you’re stuck with the vendor’s app, which I would never use.

I have been using an Amazfit Bip for a few years now, it works very good, and mostly to know when someone is calling and you have your phone in a backpack or somewhere in your house and you don’t hear it ring. The fitness and sleep tracking is pretty useless to me, but could prove useful for others.

I’m waiting for the PineTime to be in a little better shape overall to buy one, as I think it will be just perfect for my use case.
