In my personal experience nothing contributed more to pushing me away from liberals than this video. Recently i started watching “Second Thought” and his videos are also great, but i think he’s just doing stuff most of leftists already agree on, i’m looking for video that you could show to a DemSoc and they would be like “Damn, maybe i really am brainwashed, maybe i really should critically support China?”.

No disrespect to Hakim, i’m subscribed to him and i watch his videos, they’re also really good, but i don’t think they’re on the same quite level of effectiveness as what i’m talking about. I don’t really how to explain it, but i think it has something to do with people tending to believe more in people who live in these countries or at least who traveled there. If this video wasn’t called “We Went To North Korea To Get A Haircut” but instead “Media Is Lying To You About North Korea” i don’t think people would give a shit. Also i don’t think it would be as effective if this video was just a vlog about travelling to NK, instead they talked about US involvement in Korean War, mentioned Hiroshima&Nagasaki, and completely exposed hypocritical media.

I think you could make a similar video about “Chinese Ghost Cities” for example.

Hmm, in my experience whenever I show people these videos they say “they’re all paid by the government!!!” or “it’s all propaganda, those are fake Uyghurs / Chinese people forced to say X”. Same if I describe my own experiences there, having traveled there multiple times.

But here are some channels I’ve seen that I think are good about general life in China.

    YChina: https://youtube.com/c/Ychinamedia

安妮古丽: https://youtube.com/channel/UCRc63ZkXuzAWGzaJVEe_hxA (mainly in mandarin though)

    Xinjiang and Tibet sisters: https://youtube.com/channel/UC5hykSm2o7oRpOyFrMYjeBg

Also Douyin has a lot of videos from different regions of China and a lot of influencers of minority ethnicity. Iirc, after Pompeo was sanctioned by China, a lot of Xinjiang locals uploaded videos of their lives with a hashtag about the real Xinjiang, something like that.

Some people are just too far gone maybe, i don’t think you can change someone’s mind unless they’re willing to change, i think what sparked that “willingness” in me is noticing how annoying the people i follow are (ex.Vaush, and especially his fanbase that was losing their shit after his “debate” with Hakim). Malding about tankies is probably the easiest grift, you say “China bad!” and everyone from Anarchists to Nazis claps. There’s so much shit going on right now that focusing on China or Cuba is honestly deranged.

At least for Xinjiang and Tibet sisters – I have a hunch that certain anti-China supporters are doxxing them, back when Youtube had the dislike count, they had a much higher dislike ratio.

On a side note, it’s funny how Laowhy/Serpentza/ADV complain how they get “harassed” when someone calls them stupid, yet they devote videos to how said channel is a shill/sellout. Is that not harassment?

One time I randomly visited ADV subreddit and there was this post asking its members to downvote this person’s new channel. I forgot his name (something green? Nathan Green? he was featured on Daniel Dumbrill’s channel, he was part of some neutral campaign in HK), and in his intro video apparently the ADV subreddit poster (btw, some really racist guy who was also in scotland’s subreddit, he couldn’t stand Pakistanis at all) was saying how this new channel was spouting CCP propaganda (HK protestors beating the elderly, or China lifting millions out of poverty). And then he was like make sure you downvote. When I checked the video there were some nasty comments too.

Yeah idk if it was their account or someone else, but a Uyghur influencer’s account was removed on Twitter after being bombarded by hate messages and “shill” accusations.

The “CCP shill” in particular is such a laughable argument imo, sexpatza and his crew use it to dismiss everyone and every organization and every government that doesn’t align with them instead of using any fact based arguments, and then call other people brainwashed lmfao. Beyond parody.

The thing what’s annoying is that Serpentza/Laowhy’s subscribers are only going up – when they left China I think they were in the mid 100K/200K mark I think? Maybe a bit higher.

But apparently the “shill” accusations is working, and it shows that’s what some people want to hear.

On a side note, I’m surprised no one has really taken the time to expose those two’s racist behavior, with the exception of Daniel Dumbrill. It took so long for that to happen. I’d wish I had the time too, and I guess that’s the reason why for others as well. But if people exposed those two early on, especially back when they were in China, they wouldn’t be able to pump out anti-China content (often times that’s nonsense), make money and gain popularity.

Anti China material is extremely popular right now because there’s an endless amount of stuff people can use to bash China and Chinese people, easily provided by CNN, BBC, etc. Coupled with a general lack of historical awareness and critical thinking, and you get a massive audience thrilled to let out their racist sentiments on a people it’s currently politically correct to bash while they hide behind the “I only hate the CCP” excuse.

I’ve seen other videos that call them out, but they’re small channels with far less influence. Tbh though, I’m not as optimistic as you are. Society seems to have a very short, selective memory in general. Look at how many Americans worship the Dalai Lama / feudal Tibet despite the evidence of him being a slaveholder having been publicized for years now.
