When the USSR existed, western leftists complained that their stances on long hair, rock music, etc was evidence of their totailtarian, authoritarian nature, now that China has loosened up those restrictions and allowed for more individual expression, western leftists are calling China “state capitalism” What gives?

I would note that being proved wrong will not change the mind of said western leftist, as if they accept the proven truth, they will forget that they ever insisted on anything else.

Then again, this doesn’t change what you said.

On average yes, I tend to only engage with ppl if they are acting in good faith, which some western leftists I’ve found are. They’re just ignorant but they are willing to learn more and consider new ideas. Rarer than the average western leftist but they exist. I just wanted to say that if anyone no matter what ideology, is acting in bad faith, you just disengage and be confident in your beliefs and let China do the talking for you. It’ll take longer but patience sure is a virtue
