• you probably know this, but for clarity’s sake, OpenVPN is just the “backbone”; you’d still need to pay for the actual proxy (or use one of ProtonVPN’s free servers, but I wouldn’t trust any other free VPN)

    with that said, you should definitely stick to open-source software w.r.t. your VPN setup, either by using OpenVPN/WireGuard directly or by using an open-source proxy, and I wouldn’t trust Atlas VPN or any other company that has money to spend on these ads, especially not if they’re much cheaper than other VPNs like IVPN or Mullvad (they have to get the money to pay for the ads somewhere)
