Putin does not have a “tight grip” over India. Where did you get this idea?
I have heard due to Russia being prime supplier of Military, also that India imports oil from Russia while there being Russian scientists in ISRO etc. Although what I have heard might be false, in that case I would stand corrected.
You are not wrong about Russia being an important source for oil, military equipment and business in general. “Tight grip” sounds sinister but the truth is that for a poor country like India it is good to have more trading partners than less because it helps keep prices competitive. If Russia does not supply oil to India, the fuel prices are going to skyrocket. If the rest of the world was any more benevolent than Russia then India would be offered oil at controlled prices. Since that is not going to happen there is no point in jeapordising the relationship with Russia.
Yes I totally understand what you mean, I am not calling to cut ties with Russia, it is just that due to material conditions of India Russia is an important partner for India, hence India will have to keep Russian foreign interests in mind while doing its own diplomacy.
I was just thinking how this would play out in a hypothetical socialist revolution in India, India due to its material conditions would be bound to Russia even after a socialist revolution, being dependent on Russia even after revolution might cause reactionary sentiments within the party, Russia could lobby the socialist state to become an actual Russian puppet hence destroying the revolution.
Chinese on the other hand were not that dependent on USSR, and at that time USSR was still socialist (At least in name after all those liberal leaders). I don’t think India would be able to stop itself from becoming just another ‘fake socialist’ puppet of Russia if this is to happen.
If Indian socialists still somehow go against Russia claiming self-dependence then unfortunately Russia would chime in with NATO to suppress the revolution.
At least that’s what I think, I might be wrong and it might be successful, Indian material conditions make it seem difficult, I hope socialist leaders have thought about what they would be doing with Russia if they ever are to get into power.
