I play the shit out of my rp2+, but wonder if it’s worth upgrading… some of these look pretty interesting
Rofl, it’s a hobby, you do it for fun, you shouldn’t need to get paid. I also play tennis as a hobby and I love to talk to people about it without charging them money believe it or not. The fetishization with internet fame, views, and money is making gaming weird.
I mean back when I was more into gaming I would contribute. I didn’t expect money, I just did it because I was fun. I feel like there’s a big disconnect between the current generation and my generation that wrote 300 page guides on gamefaqs for the hell of it rofl.
The difference is the decreasing availability of alternatives.
I mean I would argue it’s related, the reason behind it is $$$. Corporate interests have homogenized content and de-normalized diversity and community.
People who use to just post their excel sheets and research on some bb forum for free somewhere starting getting paid by icy veins or maxroll. Overtime they establish a monopoly on the content and can do whatever the hell they want.
Why make a platform that depends on the community and you get the ad views when you can adopt a business strategy that also gets you youtube and social media views while eliminating your competition.
And the youtube trend is just people trying to emulate the handful of people who managed to make it big off the twitch/youtube bag.
As someone who’s not an auditory/visual learner I feel personally attacked by this. I skipped class and stayed home and read the book/notes for a reason.
Cause you gotta get dem “views”. Don’t forget to smash that subscribe button.
The format makes no sense for the information being consumed, it’s like this for their benefit not the viewers.
Even the Maxroll build guides are like, oh yea go view our youtube video to get all the info.
I’m on kbin.social and I can see this ;)
I like RackNerd
Cheap as hell
Tailscale, super easy install, sets up a VPN into your services, no port opening needed
Nope, do whatever suits you!
I would say tho the example you made is one of the infamous cases where docker is more difficult to setup than without due to the file locations of your movies, etc needing to match between dockers. When I set it up I found a really good guide that not only explained how to set it up but they also explained the logic and reason behind the issue.
https://wiki.servarr.com/docker-guide#consistent-and-well-planned-paths
Another good guide about the issue:
https://trash-guides.info/Hardlinks/How-to-setup-for/Docker/
The reason I’d initially recommend docker to a beginner is it keeps everything clean and organized, it’s easy to undo mistakes while learning, and I feel some apps are easier to setup with docker because they come with the dependencies already installed and configured properly.
Np, I would say dm me if you have any questions but I dunno if you can message between lemmy and kbin haha
No GUI but documentation is great with lots of hand holding lol
It comes with a folder full of premade config files for various services that you just rename from .example to .conf. And off chance you use some niche service that doesn’t have one yet you can just use their general template and whip one up.
There is a dashboard addon for status/info (no configuration)
Yea between the enshitificaiton of the internet and how far selfhost software has come it is a great time to selfhost and will just keep getting better.
Selfhosting, reddit drama, kbin, all this just makes it seem like the internet is having a sort of grassroots, back to basics movement which I’m all for lol.
As a non-technical selfhoster who just does this as a hobby I swear by swag, more accessible than nginx alone and just works, I’ve literally had zero issues. Any attempts to try other proxys have had me going back lol.
Maybe he’s not saying anything but then will drop a fully polished app out of nowhere like that Beyoncé album
Hopefully this link works, first time linking to another instance:

Yea my gf at the time all the sudden started complaining that putting stuff up the butt was painful, so I put my finger in my own butt to prove that it’s not painful at all and she probably had developed a medical condition like anal fissures or something. And I was right, it was literally like 0/10 painful.
But the strain and concentration required causes you to dump your drawers.
Yea your not alone, I bought a Steam Deck bc of fomo, and resold my unit shortly after receiving it because I didn’t like it. I’ll continue to hold out for a future portable PC handheld. And I only had to watch one youtube review to tell I wasn’t down for the ROG Ally, d-pad seems quite crappy.
Glad to hear about the Miyoo, was thinking about getting one of those for work, now you got me excited about it.
Been tempted to try to replace my RP2+ with a newer gen model, but dunno if I could ever give Abernic another shot with how bad I hated the one I had, but I’m sure all their devices are different so maybe I should. Also considering the Odin Lite.
