  • First, did you read even the research papers?

Secondly, none are out that are actually immune to jailbreaking lol, Where did that claim come from?

Gpt4 is just an llm. Indeed the better version of gpt3

Gpt4o and 1o (claude-sonnet possibly also) rely on the generative capacities of the gpt4 model but there is allot more going under the hood that is not simply “generate the next token”

We all agree that a pure text predictor are not at all intelligent.

The discussion at hand is wether the current frontier of ai has moved the needle up. And i still would call it pretty dumb, but moving that needle, it did. Somewhere around (x2y0.5) if i have to use the meme. Stating its (0,0) just means people aren’t interested enough to pay attention, that these aren’t just llm anymore. That’s their right but i prefer people stopped joining the discussion so uninformed.

It took till this year for scientists to have the idea to use mri to track brainchanges in pregnancy.

Just imagine how many super basic observations we must be lacking.

Scientific thought is ancient but we barely scratched the surface in pretty much every field.

  • At that point the computers is promoted (or enslaved depending on pov) and called a (home) server.

One nuance. You don’t need to provide access from outside your home network if you don’t want to open the ports, i prefer that most of services remain local for security anyway. Once those ports are open, you or anyone else can connect to the services using your_external_ip_address:portnumber

You also dont need to run it 24/7, i started with a minecraft server that ran on planned times only, then a system that was online during afternoon-evening but not at night-morning.

It is also possible if not recommended, to use a vpn to tunnel in your network and than you can access everything just like if you where at home from anywhere.

If it all sounds intimidating, a laptop to try things out will do fine. Don’t expect a perfect polished system on first try, i have redesigned my network from scratch multiple times over the years. If you do want to get serious there are plenty of offices that have “old” desktop servers with pretty impressive hardware, the fans may make a lot of noise though.

The Hardware in my current home server is mostly parts that got upgraded in my main pc. I have reached a point where i am willing to sometimes spend extra money on what my partner sometimes dubs “my second pc” but it is also doing a lot for us at this point. Much cheaper then a store-bought NAS.

To be fair i do care quite a bit about that. Phones just make bad computers to me. Small screen and half is used by a keyboard.

They seem designed to frustrate me so “it just works (most times)” is the only way i can stomach owning one.

I have a dream where apple is forced to make ios fully open source and where screen/input devices can freely stream any system/OS from a dedicated server.

Iphones are so “cleverly” dumb it makes them usable.

I am aware and the damage they can do is legit, but people seem to automatically assume everyone lives in such place and i have been burned before.

As far as i am aware the concept of the family cat being a wild/stray that decides to just live at your house is an ancient dynamic here.

I once found a cat in need and took it to a vet where they found it had a chip. Returned it to the official owner, they already considered it the neighbors cat more than theirs and those neighbors hadn’t seen it for 3 months. They assumed it found some better place like rich lonely elders.

  • To be fair i frequently consider the ethics of owning pets.

I am not vegan and have multiple pets. There has only be a short section of my life i lived without.

I don’t think i could personally choose to own a dog, though i love the one my partner came with and have fond memories of those from my youth.

its just how restrictive their freedoms are. Almost always in a closed area or on a leash. It’s a conscious adult animal who are we to say its wrong for it to act on its instincts. They cant leave or complain much, Its practically enslavement.

Cats however can roam freely and it’s not uncommon here for cats to visit multiple homes, possible finding a different house to live. Cats only listen if they want to and instinctively act with no regard of your human ideal. So i see much less issue there having them a part of a family.

Now before every online wildlife enthusiast screams at me for not oppressing their roaming space. Wild cats are native where i live… locking them in is locally considered very cruel.

The fact we have to discuss that is an argument for just not owning any pets though.
