I’ve never seen a good answer to this in accessibility guides, would you mind making a recommendation? Is there any preferred alt text for something like:

Sometimes an image is clearly only useful as a visual aid, I feel like “” (exluding it) makes people feel like they are missing the joke. But given it’s an accessibility tool; unneeded details may waste your time.

Unfortunately you need a modded camera with a full spectrum sensor to capture IR/UV and then remove the rainbow colors via a ~black filter. they have ~14mp mirrorless models on eBay already finished for ~$200-300. Then you need to add the relevant blocking filter, in my case it was an r76 or 760nm+ only (barely any red). See the chart below for some specific color settings. Hoja r72 is the most common filter followed by ~650nm for a yellow dreamscape.

Buying a printer: 2 main categories plastic and resin. Plastic is easier, larger scale, generally printed in pla petg or abs each with their own qualities. Resin is generally smaller and more precise(read jewelery minis), and requires requires UV treatment/chemicals to cure.

Early recommended printers: (plastic) ender or prusa. Ender will be more maintenance and give you better tuning/control, prusa will be more expensive and work a bit better out of the box.

Material: highly recommend just starting with pla and when you figure out the basics, you can change materials. The other ones will last longer and survive longer, but 3d printing has a learning curve. PLA is a good introduction

First print: download the STL or model of a benchy, it may be tempting to print something cool first, but this is a tool that needs calibration. Benchies have specific dimensions to print angles, rings, platforms, bridges ect). Go download software of choice, 3 years ago that was Cura. Load the STL file and you can click around, but I don’t recommend changing much. PLA prints well around 200*, I liked to add 2-4 extra layers of “shell” for durability, hollow support TREES are fantastic for overhanging ledges - NO COLUMNS!!, 20% infill means it will be mostly hollow but print quick and have some structure. Cura would default to the most geometrically sound pattern (honeycomb). A raft will put a grid down first to stabilize, it helped day 1, but got in the way later. .

3d printing is a lot of work, plastic deteriorates over time, but you can do a ton of cool stuff. I recommend finger surfboards, organization kits to start and the replica jet engine is a right of passage.

As far as a website: you’ll need a domain name, you can get some for free, but they usually have short renewals otherwise this is unavoidable.

You can pay for “shared hosting” at any of the major vendors like blue host or GoDaddy and get apache or aspx file hosting for like you said $X0/year.

You can use an s3 static website for ~free. Creating a DNS hosted zone is $.50. but you can create an s3 bucket (think flash drive in the cloud) store a threshold of free documents, and publish them as a website all within the free tier of AWS. This has some technical background and AWS can get expensive of you make mistakes (although this shouldn’t scale much unless you upload a thousands ton of files repeatedly)

Alternatively you can use GitHub pages . Git is a tool used by developers to share and edit code, they let you publish free HTML as well, but requires learning git or figuring out a tool with a UI like source tree. I don’t think you can use custom domains with this though.

Although if you have any interest in tech, you can also create a free nginx docker container through a lot of services like ecs, but you can also self host in a “sandbox”. Docker creates a mini virtual machine with all of the code required to run self contained. Nginx let’s you create HTML docker containers by mounting a directory. ~ docker start nginx /website/directory And it just runs self contained.

I just purchased a refurb 16g m1 air for $350 for myself for this exact reason. I hate the osx environment but it’s the best deal right now for a budget device and it doesn’t have windows. Linux doesn’t like the security chip but it’s not a blocker for cutting over you just need to disable a feature flag…

4 bay nas 22tb drives = 88tb as a single volume. Backed up to offline single storage drives that are timestamped. Anything newer than that timestamp gets rsynced/robocopied to a new drive until it’s full., update timestamp, swap drive and rinse repeat. If a drive fails, just replace it and copy the contents of the backup drives to master and restored. Alternatively you can set a single disk tolerance raid.

I imagine the 256 randomized salted hash passwords will be hard to call, some companies will likely be able to restore your password via phone support. During that time, informed attackers will potentially have the master keys to your entire life. Fighting ai chatbots trying to recall security questions. During that time your phone and Internet service could be shut off, secondary emails changed and validated, money transferred out of bank accounts, stocks and crypto sold. Crowdstrike was a valuable security company.

You can’t grep dead trees, password managers are only as secure as their infrastructure which are constantly being backdoored, socially engineered and poorly administered. Anyone that trusts a simple security solution is a fool.

My rhcsa expired and I only have experience beyond that. Your task right now is to find a job and the easiest way to do that is to leverage your network. If you don’t have a network, you need to prove that you can commit to a long term plan and learn a skill. Most people do that with degrees. Unfortunately a lot of people have degrees and technology is getting more competitive. That’s where you see school competitions and certifications. If you don’t want to do that, you’ll need to be able to speak competently to the role.

Unfortunately right now I do not recommend platform/devops/sre for anyone breaking into the field. If I create an application today, it’s server less or bring your own dockerfile on a provided machine image. So what are you administrating? Legacy shops will be around for decades, but the future here is layered architecture not os tasks.

Yes and no, if Firefox org falls, open source community will continue to develop necessary features like security updates, but features will drag behind. Eventually a new player will emerge and we will bury it out back with Netscape, ie and aol explorer.
