That’s one of my dilemmas. Due to using BSD and relying on jails I have a hard time using lots of possibly nice apps being released nowadays because they only offer the docker way of installing.

Am I reading this correctly. 799 pln for entrance?
I was debating between getting myself a NAS or some PC to setup my homelab. I decided for a PC as it gives me more freedom to install and personalize it the way I want.
At the moment I’m running FreeBSD with jails on a Q920 with an i5 processor, 16 GB of RAM, one internal SSD with 512 GB and 2 external USB SDDs with each 1 TB which costed me around 300 Euros.
Seems more than enough for the services I want to provide to myself which are the following.
Navidrome > serves all my music locally and remotely.
Zabbix > to monitor my servers
DNSMasq > ad blocking and local dns
gitea > repo for code and other docs
Transmission > torrenting
Radicale > webcal and webdav
Photoprism > local photo gallery
Vaultwarden > Password manager
SearXNG > search
HAproxy > to serve my public content easily to the web
Mastodon
Emby > local media server
And I run a Linux VM on bhyve to serve 2 tools that I was not able to make work easily on FreeBSD.
Besides that, the node replicates some data from my VPS as a backup solution.
And I can’t complain at all. That PC is doing its job just fine. No need for any rack that uses huge amount of electricity.
Thanks for the tip but I’m not sure why I would choose a desktop client over Navidrome itself. I usually have the browser open anyway. But maybe I’m missing something useful by using an actual app?
I settled with Navidrome. It solves 2 use cases for me. Due to being web based it can be used by any PC or mobile device with access to my server. Additionally it supports subsonic which allows me to use a native android app (ultrasonic) and have music on the go. I don’t use services like Spotify.
3·10 months agoI jumped onto the FreeBSD train a year ago and needed some virtualization tool for my job. A started using bhyve and must say that I am quite happy with it and don’t plan to move to any other tool soon. Not sure how it compares to other tools performance wise but it does the job for me.

4·1 year agoIf I would have been asked to choose one really useful piece of software on Windows it would be Agent Ransack. I use it to find strings in a bunch of files, even compressed ones. I believe it can do much more but I use it for this purpose on daily basis. There’s a paid version but the light one is free and does all I need. https://www.mythicsoft.com/agentransack/
2·1 year agoI’m happy to get conviced otherwise but in my 26 years living in Spain, Valencia and Andalucia, that was what I have experienced.
In Spain they will immediatelly ask you if you are sick. Only sick people drink tea there, or english tourists, but they will usually go to english bars anyway. In those places they will serve black tea and ask you if you want it with lemon or milk.
My native language is German but I lived in Spain for a long time and there they call them “nubes”, clouds.
3·1 year agoHere another bit of proof that something was way off. Not sure if you have ever seen this video from BBC. I did, live as I was in Spain at the time and the bar I was at had BBC on all day. In a few words, the collapse of WTC 7 was announced before it actually happened. So, that day you just see it and believe what is said. How should I know that WTC 7 is actually in the background. I’m not from New York. But you see that video later again with comments that in fact it is still standing and you ask yourself, what else is a lie in that whole story.
Please watch and ignore the comments as they do not add any value to it but it’s the only one I could find straight away.
Anyhow, this and all other stories, articles and analysis I have been reading over the years make me believe that the whole story is a big lie and it was in fact an inside job.
Some call me a believer of conspiracy theories but I just think this is my truth. It does not change my life nor does it impact me deeply beside all new laws and rules that have been passed due to it which I have to life with but we all have to. It is the past and I only brought it up due to reading this post.
If you like it or not, this is my believe after seeing countless videos and reading about it. Planes hit the WTC? True. Commercial planes? Maybe not. What nobody seems to be able to explain is the speed of the collapse. Nearly free fall, no resistance. Can you explain it to me?
Yes, we know the names of the people that died and we found the passport of one of the hijackers on the ground close to the towers. How convenient. As I asked others, explain me how the towers came down so fast. Free fall, no resistance. Buildings only collapse like this with a controlled demolition which confirmes to me that the story they gave us is not true. Pentagon, WTC 7 collapse due to fire?
And I will repeat my question to you. How was it possible that the towers collapsed with that speed? Free fall, no resistance. Due to a plane hitting them? Sorry, but I cannot believe this. On top comes the Pentagon and WTC 7. The whole story is a big lie.
How could they collapse without any resistance? Nearly free fall! Have you seen something like this before? Something is off here.

I’m not arguing that planes actually hit the WTC but I would argue that they where comercial planes.
So, if the Pentagon story seems a lie to you, why do you believe the WTC story?
I remember watching the documentary of those 2 french guys, following a fireman rookie. Nothing special at the beginning until 9/11 happened. One of them was the one filming the first impact with some firemen. Anyhow, these firemen were convinced that the towers came down by controlled demolition and I believe them because they may have seen a few.
And then WTC 7, collapsing due to fire. Come on!!! This was planned and could only have been done internally.
I settled on a Fujitsu Q920 with 16 GB of RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Runs FreeBSD 14.1 and each service has its own Jail.

A second machine that starts daily and creates a backup of machine 1 by using ZFS autobackup.
Nothing fancy but it does what I need.
