Seems to be sort of working for me. The home page still loads but no comments load. I only open the app occasionally though. I’ve been mostly using Kbin now especially since I’ve been able to beta test Artemis

It always annoyed me how the ads were formatted to look like posts, always felt like they were trying to trick people into clicking on it (which honestly that probably is the intent). Feel the same way with ads on Twitter. It’s one thing to show ads and another to format them to try and trick users into clicking on them

It’s strange, I’ve seen other instances that have upgraded to 0.18 that have no issues whereas some have issues. I’ve also seen some that aren’t federating even on earlier versions. lemmy.blahaj.zone upgraded to 0.18 but seems to still be federating just fine with Kbin, but lemmy.ml seems super broken with Kbin. Hopefully it gets resolved soon, I’ve run across several communities I want to follow but can’t due to federation being broken

Someone else got it to start federating in lemmy.world

It needs to be manually searched first, if you search !catsubs@kbin.social it should come up, though another commenter said that lemmy.world is having some issues searching right now so that could be the reason

If you search: !catsubs@kbin.social on Lemmy it should show up as a community you can subscribe to in Lemmy. Someone on your instance needs to manually search it for it to start federating, not sure how it works with pinned comments though. Hopefully those will eventually show up even though they were posted before federation started. If not bringing it up on Kbin and copying the link works too.

I might need to create a Lemmy account just so I can learn more about how to use it, I’ve been using Kbin since last week and am really liking it so far

Yet more reasons why people should stop using LastPass… I finally switched to Bitwarden after getting tired of having to choose between using it on mobile or desktop. Got out before the hack. I’m going to work on transferring my data again to a self hosted Bitwarden

Nope, the wells been poisoned. Even if they did a full 180 and Fired Spez for good measure, they’ve shown their hand. How long before they do it again? Even if all of this was %100 Spezs idea and everyone else in the company opposed it, could we really trust the replacement to never try this or anything similar again? How long before the next CEO decides to try again? What Reddit as a company has proven is that they can’t be trusted, and what we as a community have proved with switching over to Kbin and Lemmy is that we don’t need Reddit. We can make the same content and have the same or in some cases better communities and the beauty of doing it on a platform like this? A greedy corporation can’t destroy it again. Even if a major instance owner goes rogue, we pick up move to another instance and keep going no need to learn a new site no need to rebuild communities. A simple “I’m moving over to this instance!” And that’s it

I think there is some merit of wanting to be less forced into being connected all the time but I think a lot of these people that want to go back to a time before cell phones and the Internet are forgetting all the good parts. Like no internet at all means in order to connect with friends or communities around the world you either have to send snail mail or schedule phone calls to take place on land lines. The Internet has brought so many people together in such good ways and throwing that out would be a huge shame. Meanwhile cell phones being gone mean if you’re stranded in the middle of nowhere you are now stuck and have no way of calling for help and have to find some way to get to a phone. Also no cell phones means of you are in a dangerous situation you can’t notify emergency contacts quickly or again call for help.

I get there are a lot of downsides to the Internet and cell phones but to just ignore all the wonderful and good things this technology has brought is not good. The technology isn’t the issue it’s the people and if we want to be better we need to start training ourselves and others to be better instead of just taking away good and helpful tools

TLDR: Technology has done a lot of good for the world and taking it away would cause a lot of problems I don’t think people like this realize. Better solution is to grow and be better people

I self host Mattermost it’s a Slack+Trello alternative. But they do also have just the Trello alternative if you don’t want the Slack functionally it’s called Focalboard
