@fne8w2ah. When I was a kid, toys, whatnots, etc could be taken by the teacher to be returned when they saw fit or off to the office and whenever the principal decided. I’d assume the same rules would apply to a smartphone.

@Arotrios Why would I want an inferior version of mastadon? But seriously I will likely only end up with one if they auto generate it. (a few family use ig and fb as their only communication so it’s checked occasionally via web with adblockers etc…ugh).
@L4s. It’s threatening their wallet. Who wants to buy ads if ads are disabled or all the discussion you were targeting is suddenly free for all/john oliver? Who will keep a subscription if their frequented subreddits are effectively useless because of protesting (assuming they aren’t supporting the protests, etc).
@Atemu. Money. Same reason they don’t really wanna disclose all the little fees.
This will likely hit Apple in the US eventually, now it may not be the simplest or basically have a bunch of “Proceed at your on risk” warnings…but it’s almost for sure going to happen. The Google part is confusing…Hasn’t android had sideloading from the get go?

Very true, but then leave it in a bag/locker.
