Holding the highlighted red thumb key(s) will activate layers. So left thumb is nav, right is symnum, both is fun.

The shift on R is only used for shortcuts, and acts as r when tapped and shift when held. For typing I use the two sticky shift combos on ring+middle homerow.

Linux Mint

I’m glad to hear it. Linux in general has gotten way better in that regard. I haven’t had to fix any driver issues in years just install and it works.

PopOS is definitely a great first choice distribution. I would recommend Linux Mint over it for people coming from windows who wants something rock solid with a great community

Because they are really cheap to build. Mine was about $50 USD total. Really nice way to get into ergonomic keyboards.

Yeah it was my first time with QMK as well. You can try emailing the creator they are really nice.

You need to you need to use git to clone his branch of QMK then follow GMKs instructions to make the build enviroment. Once you have that setup run the make command. Then to flash the firmware you hold down the boot button while plugging in the keyboard. Just drag the uf2 file into the microcontrollers drive that shows up.

Yep. I used a Chromebook pixel in college with Linux on it. Worked pretty well

Great to see another Cheapino! The rotary encoder needs to edited through the encoder file, I had the same issue it is set like this as default.

I can’t help with qmk.fm I am on Linux and used make:Cheapino for my flashing. But it was confusing for me to figure out as well with this being my first build and first interaction with QMK.

I can send you my .uf2 file and you can flash my layout by just dragging the file into the RPI-RP2 drive hahaha.

I emailed Tompi when I got stuck and he responded very quickly and was very helpful. I’m sure you could do the same.

For me swapping to Colemak was mostly comfort as you move your fingers way less. Plus I never actually learned how to touch type on QWERTY anyway, so if I was going to have to learn why not something that’s just better hahaha. If I was comfortable on QWERTY and could touch type I probably wouldn’t have swapped.
