Fun fact! Ridiculous Fishing has a soundtrack by Eirik Suhrke who also did Spelunky, Downwell & UFO 50. He is IMO one of the most underrated composers in the space, I love his work. This is after the sudden death of Twitter user @MECFSComrade, Megan Pendleton, who was a beloved activist and friend to many suffering with ME/CFS. I am sick of seeing us die, killed by the negligent systems and people around us, many of them with the gall to call themselves “comrade.” I am still mourning the deaths of Alice Wong and Leslie Lee III, and now here is another. How many more will it take? Too many. The abled have so much blood on their hands, and they better pray to whatever power they worship that they are never made to answer for it. COVID kills. Wear a mask. Support us while we are still here, or you are no better than the enemy.

In this thread alone I was told “it’s not that serious bro,” when I am not a bro, lol. I can go digging for receipts, but to be honest I don’t want to. There are so many posts complaining about this from the last several years of deleted users who left because of it that I don’t feel like this is a question in good faith from someone who has been paying attention for a length of time.

Do you understand that this is a criticism of site culture on the whole and not an individual categorization? Not every single interaction with every single user will be an example of this. It is all over the site, though. Dirtbag left shit is always like this; it was in the old r/cth days and it’s not that much better here. The people who try to make things better get run off or leave burnt out from trying to cope with the dissonance. This is the identity problem. Lots of people just want their bro-bro locker room podcast Twitter dunks and others want an inclusive community with shared values, and those two worlds are constantly creating friction.

I remember you from a discussion I had here about COVID and you had an actually respectable opinion. Why act like this, then? What is wrong with anything that I said?

What does this community value? To me it appears to be crass shitposting and masculine posturing above anything else. A flimsy foundation for lasting participation of anyone who isn’t in on the tired joke, as it were. Additionally most of this website is plague rats and/or Americans in denial about the severity of both conditions. Ironic detachment is seemingly the only tool left in the face of heightening principle contradictions among one’s cohort and if one wants to continually deflect everything as “struggle sessions” as so many here do then this will be the result: people leave. The question then becomes what people do you want to stay? I get this is a non-serious post but this place seems to be having something of an identity crisis lately that does not look like it’s being addressed satisfactorily.

Hope in Work and Joy in Leisure also gets me. Phenomenal backdrop for the moment.

I really like Ignus Nilsen Waltz. Does that count? It was added with the vision quests.

My unpopular gaming opinion is that I liked 2 when it came out, but I’m not sure if it would still hold up. I’ll have to revisit it sometime. 1 is still far and away the best.

There’s really nothing wrong with old tech. Half of the world still runs on tape drives. Until very recently my laptop was still 4:3. I haven’t upgraded my desktop PC in something like 6 years and it’s still fine. I don’t play cutting edge video games or do intensive video rendering, but I imagine most people aren’t either and they could live without AAA games.
