It really feels like Ochako has some weird fixation on Toga, rather than this capacity for empathy that the author is trying to convey, yeah. This is making Ochako look like a bigger weirdo than Toga to be honest.

I feel like Kingdom Hearts was alright? But I was also an edgy teenager when I last read it so who knows if it aged well.
Personally I like the idea that the chapter is posted by a fan of the series so that they’re relatively likely to respond to comments on the chapter. Y’know, have the idea that at least one person is invested in the thing being posted.
Edit: in addition, if I wanted an overview of every single new chapter, I’d just go to mangadex. I’d like an overview of chapters that people are actually interested in discussing, instead.
Thank you Viz for region locking Komi so I have an excuse to drop the series.
That was weird. And kinda fun.
Watchdog Man really feels similar to Saitama in a lot of ways. And it’s not just the shape of his face and his blank expression.
I agree, to some degree. I do enjoy reading about people bonding over dinner, but the specifics of the recipes does not interest me at all. Collection of ingredients can be fun though, as well as unlocking new ‘technologies’ for better cooking, or getting buffs from the cool meals.
Yeah, people describing tastes that don’t exist isn’t great, but what bugs me more is that somehow the most dangerous monsters generally taste the best. Are you telling me that these tough-as-shit orc and dragon muscles are gonna taste better than those cows bred specifically for the purpose of optimizing tastiness? I’m not buying it.
‘Retort based comedy’ is certainly the correct description for this style, and it seems to be a staple of Japanese humor. The whole boke+tsukkomi schtick, right? It seems that for a lot of people, the retort is effectively the punch-line, but to me it feels more like a laugh track. Not necessarily a bad thing as long as the jokes or the antics are good, but you can get the same problem that, say, The Big Bang Theory has: tricking people into laughing at unfunny jokes.
I haven’t seen/read enough D-Frag to tell if this is the case for it as well, but I do remember checking out the show and being uninterested in watching the second episode.
The funniest manga to me are still Grand Blue, Kaguya Wants to be Confessed To, Nichijou, Hinamatsuri, Chio-chan no Tsuugakuro, Jitsu Wa Watashi Wa (that one is very retort-based actually) and I’m probably forgetting some more. Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun was pretty funny because of the outrageous misunderstandings that kept piling on top of each other. Komi-san used to be great but kinda fell off a little bit. So make of that what you will.
I do think it’s a shame that the spirit possession got scrapped entirely. I would have liked it more if it remained a tool in their arsenal, rather than being completely overshadowed by Oversoul. I think there were a couple of chapters where an enemy disabled everyone’s Oversoul abilities, and Yoh had to be possessed by Amidamaru again for the first time since volume 3 or so.
Shaman King was my first too! I really loved the art style and the flashiness of it all.
Ruri Dragon was such a shame. Had to do with the author’s health, right?
Oh yeah, Psyren for sure. I really wish it got the time to reach a proper buildup to a satisfying conclusion, rather than that rushed ending that it got.
I’m surprised to see Denji thinking about his situation to the point of coming to the conclusion to stop becoming Chainsaw Man. I’m also very interested to see what exactly the deal is with this copycat.
Their dynamic sure has changed from what it was in the beginning to a mutually supportive one. …which is seriously starting to feel like they’ve straight up discarded the original premise 🤔
Yep, that sure was wild as usual. That Avengers-style team pose at the end feels deserved.
I know I know, I have a personal distaste for them. I’m just a little tired of seeing that “tsun-derederederederederederederedere girl” doing nothing of consequence for years.
I’m hoping there will be a bigger focus on discussions of new chapters. Personally I’d love a rule where each ‘chapter’ that is posted must be at least, say, 5 pages, because I’m tired of those 2-page Twitter comics. I’m hoping that would be enough to prevent at least some of horniness.
If you’ve ever seen that “This is my hole” meme, the story Enigma of Amigata Fault is where that originated from. A personal favorite of mine is Long Dream. And a longer series of overarching stories called Uzumaki is great as well.
Definitely can’t go wrong with One Punch Man and Chainsawman!
Is this new? Did Kishimoto really wait until 2023 to write this epilogue when there’s already a bunch of Boruto stuff published?
