I definitely can’t speak about general consensus, but that’s what stopped me using it.

No AI please - it just dilutes and lowers the overall quality of the community. I’d much rather a handful of genuine posts/comments from real people than a flood of hallucinations that range from being utter gibberish to making you question your own sanity.
Also, be aware that you will need to fix your modlog page by running a query against your database
Totally fair - thanks for the response!
Genuine question - what’s the advantage of Pixelfed over Lemmy? Is it just more photo-oriented in some way? Or just different strokes for different folks?
Great to see more federation though!
Sounds like you might just want to look into a more curated home server.
I maintain my own lemmy server, so I get to select which communities show up in my feed and which don’t, and since it’s my own server, I can filter and curate my feed for myself (which so far has not been much work at all).
I can confidently say that I haven’t had any racist or other undesirable memes flooding my home page.
Even still, you can get a small VPS and connect a VPN between it and your LAN, using it as a gateway with a static IP.
Gotta watch out for bandwidth limitations and data caps on small VPS like that though.
The Pixel ‘a’ line of phones has always been my go to - able to be unlocked/rooted easily, decent cameras, reasonably priced (7a starts $500 at the moment, and 6a is $350 new), although I have heard that the 6a and 7a using Google’s processors can really kill your battery life.
I’m writing this from a 5a that I have been quite happy with myself, but it’s getting a bit older now, so you might now want to go that many generations back.
I’m looking out for the new 8a, might be my next phone, not sure yet.
Even better - redirect stdout to a file within the program!
Been using DigitalOcean for years - their free DNS operations are nice for dynamic dns too. Linode is pretty solid as well.
That’s the thing, nobody really knows!
And it’s exponentially based on how many pixels those characters take up
And even with ‘AuthN’ vs ‘AuthZ’ it always takes me a minute to spell them out and work out which is which
I would generally say to stick to approach 1, as much as that stinks. Your observation about approach 2 especially compounds once you start to look at more complex operations that need to be optimized based on how the underlying DB works. Care still needs to be taken in approach 1 to avoid non-optimal operations, but at least you have the freedom to rework individual methods on your DatabaseProxy instead of all FirebaseProxy methods using your underlying CRUD operations.
One of the fastest ways I get people thinking about this is asking
How would you implement a
listTimers
orlistTickets
API with cursors?
Generally that’s complex enough to bring out pain points.
It might be related to Samsung pushing apps/updates to your phone. I’ve seen them do similar on a galaxy tab before as well.
Didn’t believe them then, don’t believe them now.
RIP Nova.
