The EU isn’t the US.

Most countries in Europe have this idea of integration where the foreigner learns and adopts the language and culture of the country. You’ll see lots of discussions of “failed” integration of foreigners, especially in Germany.

I think this is still a type of colonialism where they think there culture is better and the foreigner must change, rather than the other way around.

I think the US is a bit better in this regard as there is this idea of a cultural mixing pot and foreigners aren’t expected to “integrate”.

The predatory credit cards in the US should be not legal. They are exploiting people who don’t have so called “financial literacy” and encourage wasteful spending.

In Europe the US style credit cards don’t really exist and people just have debit cards. Also there is a social safety net, so people don’t have to rely on keeping money in the bank for when they become unemployed.

I think the point of co-operative/collaborative parenting would be for the group to agree on how to raise the children. You collectively raise the children, not each adult implementing their own rules/methods. When you have differing opinions, you would most likely compromise and come to a common ground. The whole point of working together is to operate as a group to reduce the workload and not work in isolation.

In capitalism everyone has to exploit their skills/strengths for money. Whether that is your body doing manual labor, sex work, or your mind doing knowledge work, it is at the base the same activity.

You can also discuss adjusting your commuting times to minimize time spent on the road while still benefiting from being in the office with other employees.

Seems like it has been two months since any new builds on TestFlight. There are quite a few usabilities issues in the app, such as search not working. I ended up switching to Voyager, which is much more usable, but I liked the Memmy UI better.

The FOSS contributions from companies mentioned is only at the kernel level. And a lot that use the kernel, but with proprietary blobs for their hardware. I suspect that is because kernel/embedded development is hard and costly.

Most of the dominate OSes people use, with the exception of Windows, is based on an FOSS kernel, with then the layers above and applications being proprietary.

These software systems are being used to lock people in to the specific platforms and perform user hostile behavior. So while having the kernel be FOSS, it doesn’t result in user freedoms imagined by FOSS, it just companies reducing their costs.

There’s some truth to it. I’ve seen devs not clarify something from the designs with other stakeholders due to lack of social skills. You end up with something they implemented to the spec, but makes no sense it reality.

Hardware repairability is only part of the solution. We also need the right to maintain the software after the hardware manufacture decides they will no longer provide software updates.

I have done this, but it is clunky having to first launch the Battle.net launcher, then launch Diablo IV on the steam deck. It would be much better to skip the launcher. I would hope when you bought the game through steam you wouldn’t be forced to go through the launcher.

From what I understand you have to re-purchase if you already own it on Battle.net, which is pretty frustrating. As playing on the Steam Deck would be much easier in Steam.

Once Sonoma is out, Big Sur won’t see any more security updates. Apple only updates the lastest three versions of macOS.

The bigger problem is software applications increasing there minimum macOS version very quickly once Apple stops supporting the OS version.

Apple is the worst with this with Xcode increasing the minimum macOS version each year. You can’t stay on old Xcode versions, at least for iOS development, as Apple requires a certain version to submit to the AppStore. This in effect causes devs to have to buy new hardware quickly after Apple drops support.

You can debloat the devices, removing all the shit from Google and the devices manufacture.

I recently got a Lenovo tablet from 2017, and once I removed all the shit software, including Google’s, it is quite useable.

It’s a different story for their computers. Macs from 2017 are not supported by Sonoma. It’s pretty terrible to have a desktop/laptop obsoleted at 6 years.

I got a T480 with only an 48Wh external battery. I have Linux Mint on it with TLP enabled and get 5-6 hours with web browsing and light programming. I’m pretty happy with it. If I installed an internal battery and/or upgraded to the 72Wh external battery, could get much longer.

Is being able to run an alternative OS on your device covered in the law?

I would love to be able to put another OS on iPhone hardware, as now they become waste quickly after Apple drops them from the latest iOS version.

I found the names of the towns/regions to be pretty confusing and they felt out of place in the Diablo universe compared to how places were named in the previous games.

I found this confusing (as did the op). Maybe instead of using the plus icon and making it stand out, it could just be 41 (3 new).
