This is fair. It is the medical profession that took the name from the academia. Unfortunately, it’s come around to the point that some US states are now banning the use of the term for some higher level degrees to avoid confusion in the medical profession.
If they define a function that’s fair. I’m of the firm belief that data are points and models/functions are lines.

But that part is true. We see these huge seismic anomalies at the core-mantle boundary that many think is a “slab graveyard” (e.g. https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1029/2020GC009396 ).

Just so you know, each of the headlines you posted suggested that China’s consumption of coal is more than ever before, in agreement with the prior poster. Also clean coal has nothing to do with CO2 reduction, it’s scrubbing other nasties like SO2.
It’s good that they’re expecting this to max out imminently, but it’s still a max.

Being able to work with useful approximations is an important and liberating skill for many tasks.
I always use the example of driving around town. The fastest route is usually not the surface roads linking A to B along the shortest line, but a route that includes a highway with a faster route. Longer drive length, but shorter overall duration.
A very similar enlightenment moment came to me as well long ago as an Intro Geology student
