  • Sorta unrelated, but I had a small realization the other day. As much as Bitcoin was hailed as the currency of the future by libertarian types, as the currency that would make state-backed economies unnecessary, the majority of the qualities that are supposedly unique to Bitcoin exist in good old gold. Gold is anonymous and stateless like Bitcoin, its only limit being the difficulty of transferring it. So the creation of Bitcoin was less of a monetary paradigm shift and more just a small victory for the metallist theory of money. Had there been a true historical need for something like Bitcoin, I’m sure that gold would have been reworked into a more modern form in order to meet this need well before Bitcoin ever existed.

    Idk long story short libertarians are proven once again to be idiots who don’t understand history
