Yes, it does. It will keep suffering from the same issues as long as it encourages microblogging, and there are public upvotes and likes, and you can post links on Lemmy with a single-sentence summary that people can react to without reading the link. The Fediverse social media is built on the exact same premises as for-profit social media.
What has been done on the Fediverse is taking these systems and making them less addictive. Basically, they have all the problems of for-profit social media, but for-profit social media snowballs these problems and puts them at the core of their business model. The issue without the several layers of « making it worse because money » is not nearly as bad. But I do believe it’s a « lesser evil » thing, at least for our brains and ability to interact with people.
In my city, we don’t have a subway, but we have trains and tramways and buses (and my city’s super flat and very bike-friendly). I haven’t owned a car in 10 years. My partner sold their car this year because it took them more time to drive around than to take public transportation or their bike.
All of France yep!
I got one! It was delicious!
Lake Bled was really beautiful, I really liked it! My heart went to Bohinj though :D
Just started The daughter of Doctor Moreau yesterday.
Before that, Rana Joon and the one and only now was absolutely wonderful and I really recommend it.
yes I am indeed removed
I have no recommendations but please know that Gender Trouble is actually a psyop book written only to melt the brain of people who attempt to read it (/s)
I just can’t get my head around this monster of a book!
Yeah, Anna’s Archive bragged about doing it (and they did great).
Isn’t that just the metadata?
people really hate when developers are paid for their work huh
Salut, bienvenue !
I’d recommend donating to your national Wikimedia chapter if you aren’t in the US. They’re not funded by megacorps and they often struggle financially, and they’re the ones doing a lot of work on the ground.
It is! Also one of the easiest places for setting a creative commons license, and also later on importing the useful and free pictures to Wikimedia Commons where they’ll be used for illustrating Wikipedia articles, among other things.
Yes, it’s so much work - I had a pretty unique first name that I had been using as my pseudonym on social media etc. and that was an extra hassle, + THE EMAILS! Changing the email address on EVERYTHING was such a nightmare and I still haven’t bothered on some of them haha
Ahh yeah, I’ve always seen people put their real name when they live in apartments so that the delivery person would know who to call. But that’s a good point, I might start using pseudonyms :)
No, it’s not normal to use pseudonyms for everything where you get billed, which can be a lot of small different services.
(And more generally, I don’t think this is the nicest or most useful thing to say to someone who’s venting.)
Chronological, starting with Equal Rites.
