Je suis en région (très) vallonnée et même avec les enfants c’est vélo l’hiver pour l’école, le travail, les courses. Ça s’apprend et ça demande de s’équiper un peu. Les rares moments où on évite ce sont les moments où on ne prendrait pas la voiture non plus (trop de gel, …).

Par contre le côté vallonné + froid ça oblige à prendre de bons vélos. C’est pas un électrique à 1000 balles qui va vous faire passer les côtes sans effort.

Well… no. It never was. Even the USA is highly intrusive and protectionnist. Also, state capitalism ? In you other responses you talk about China like it’s not a capitalist country. China is the main example of state capitalism.

I think you are confusing capitalism with something else.

A socialist or communist society could be healthier. Not saying it automatically would be. The only people theorizing a sustainable economy are on the (far) left though.

And the last 50 years proved that sustainability is impossible in a capitalist system. It hinders profits, and the basis of capitalism is: always more profits.

Capitalism means always looking for more profits. Endless efforts of private owners to expand and increase their profits leads to the perpetual circle of suproduction and overconsumption which destroy ressources and ecosystems.

This particular system is the main reason it’s happening.

If we take into consideration the destruction of the ecosystems necessary to sustain human life, capitalism is a net-negative.

Business as usual. Climate crisis is everyone’s problem but me ! Everyone must make an effort, but not me !

It’s the triangle of inaction. Corporations, government and people blame the two others and use it as an excuse for inaction.

I can understand it in some cases, but meat consumption ? There is no excuse to not stop or at least reduce meat consumption. It’s easy to do, it’s cheaper, … And the impact of everyone not buying meat is insanely positive.

The “flat” argument made sense a while ago in my opinion. As someone who live in a very non-flat region, biking, especially “daily life” biking was not a good solution.

This argument is now dead with the rise of electric bikes.

Really depends where you live. In my town I also decide when I leave, and I don’t risk being late because I missed the train by one minute. I’ll just take the next one. More risk of being late because of car traffic.

The problem when people compare cars to public transport is that they compare the current state of public transport in their area. We need to compare what would happen if we were spending as much billions as we do on cars.

I was surpised when I tried the first time but no, they are not awkward to steer ! It drives like a normal bike. It also feels safer to see exactly where you are puting the box with your children in it.

This is a bicarrier though (one wheel at the front). Tricarriers (two wheels at the front) don’t drive like a bike AT ALL !

In my experience acting curious and asking questions is the best way to change someone’s opinion. Make them think about the subject and realize by themselves why they might be wrong.
