I always heard that pearls/jade and n’joy were slower growing varieties of the original marble queen. I found that mine started to really take off after I pruned it back and stuck a couple of fertilizer sticks in the pot. I’ve also got a marble and I gotta say, it’s been keeping up with it growth-wise lately haha

I struggled with this one even before I dropped it, so I feel your pain. Through some trial and error, I found that this guy likes lots of light and little water.

Light-wise, he’s in a east facing window that gets a ton of morning/early afternoon sun. Used to be in a spot that got direct sun but I had to move things around recently and it’s less direct now (so hopefully I haven’t jinxed it lol)

For watering, I know a lot of people say to do the “taco test” (i.e. fold the leaves gently and if they fold like a taco, then it’s time to water) but I found that was waiting too long between waterings. I just go on the weight of the pot now. I still wait until the soil is dry all the way through but not long enough that the leaves “taco”. I also feel like a shallow pot is super important. The grey cache pot is tall to allow hanging but the pot inside is only 2 inches deep (it’s a custom job, I cut a nursery pot in half). I’ve also found that it responds best to bottom watering because the water just kind of runs through if I go from the top.

  • r/place is an interactive art project run by reddit on April Fools. It ran in 2017 and 2022. Now they’ve brought it back for 2023 (it was supposed to have happened on April Fools this year, but various…things…happened). It kicked off again today and as expected, it’s gained attention for the bad timing (protests, tone deaf admin, etc…) and people have coordinated to write “fuck spez” messages and other things (at some point, there was a guillotine + reddit’s head).

  • I’ve been trying to kickstart four communities because apparently I’m a masochist, but I’ve posted more in the last month than I did in the last 10 years on reddit. It reminds me a lot of my first couple of years on reddit (circa 2010/2011) and then my posting died off because you’d either get drowned out by the noise (hundreds or thousands of comments) or ignored in favour of a one liner joke.

I’ve seen a lot of people comparing Lemmy to early reddit, and I don’t necessarily disagree, but I feel like there’s one important distinction between the two. Even early reddit was driven by karma. There just wasn’t as much people >10 years ago. I find the lack of karma on Lemmy refreshing. How it’s gone back to the old forum way of just counting the number of posts is fantastic. It’s a weird habit to break out of though because part of me still wants to go “I got no upvotes, time to delete” or “I’m getting downvotes, better delete my post”.

  • 13 year old account checking in. I’m undecided if I want to fully delete or not yet. I want to at least hang on until the end of June when shit will really hit the fan (if it does). I’m always up for watching a train wreck.

I deleted all my comments and submissions today (except for a comment thanking the RIF dev and a couple of comments shitting on /u/spez). Not that I was ever a particularly popular redditor, but I’ll be fucked if they’ll earn another penny on any content I’ve created.
