Roku, android TV, samsung, webOS, and a bunch of other random smart tv platforms all have plex apps. For direct hdmi I assume most people run a media center like kodi (xbmc).
Nope, both go directly from your PC to your tv. Plex does a log-in thing to their servers but that’s just an account. Jellyfin is 100% local.
For a PC and a roku on the same network I would highly recommend Plex or Jellyfin. You store the video on your pc and stream it over to the tv over the network. They’re both free, Plex is closed source and has some paid features if you want that, Jellyfin is totally open source.

The potential for distros optimized for specific tasks without needing to swap out entire kernels. A “gaming” focused scheduler probably looks different from a big data cruncher or a super multi-tasker server.
Are you concerned about sensitive data leaving the PC or some sort of infection (like a crypto-locker) being brought onto it? Also, what is your threat level? Are you likely to be targeted specifically?
With an airgap, it would be pretty difficult to get data off of it without being onsite. The most important things would be physically securing the device (locked room), using full disk encryption, and using some sort of 2-factor login system. (hardware security key, like a yubikey ideally).
Securing against infection is nearly impossible, as stuxnet showed. Your best bet to beat these is some common sense security with what you’re transferring and lots of backups. If you do find an infection, you just blow the whole system up and restore from a clean backup.

One of the things that makes the warp drive idea so compelling is it does not have this issue. I’m not a physicist but I do like star trek. The idea is that inside the “bubble” is a normal inertial frame with no significant time dilation effects compared to where you left from. This is why in fiction you can travel faster than the speed of light within one without the need for “infinite” energy. Your mass never moves in space, you take your little bubble of space with you.
Executives get paid more but they’re still working class.
